Saving Oureselves with Ghibli, Lo-fi and Books (Guest Edition)
Issue #3 (w/ Aparna from Save Ourselves)
Helloo 👋
How are you? 🤔
No, really - how are you?
It’s September ALREADY!! and I am freaking out because where has all of the year gone?? 🤯
I keep reminding my friends of the passage of time but this is the kind of response I usually get.
I guess we’re all in disbelief because this year is going by too fast. 😪
Anywayy, this is the 3rd issue of the newsletter - and I‘ve decided that every 3rd newsletter (#3, 6, 9, 12…) from here on - I’ll be asking other creators to share some cool reccs!
My main aim behind inviting creators to be guest collaborators is so that they can share what kind of content they're looking at and enjoying. Kinda like a behind the scenes of what makes the creator themselves, because I truly believe that the kind of content we watch and consume is a reflection of who we are.
🎥🤗
This week’s guest is Aparna Kher who runs the blog and YouTube channel called Save Ourselves. Aparna’s content revolves around self-improvement, productivity, bullet journaling, organisation and SO much more.
I learnt how to block time and create different calendars from her video! (it’s changed my life! 💡)
Here are 5 reccomendations from Aparna:
Pick Up Limes: Sadia, a plant-based nutritionist by profession, runs this YouTube channel. While it is mainly about plant-based recipe ideas, she also covers topics like intentional living, mindfulness and minimalism through her videos which are some of the most well-made videos I've come across.
Studio Ghibli movies: Can't really pick a favourite but My Neighbour Totoro's is really good! Studio Ghibli is a Japanese animation film studio that makes the most wholesome, hearty movies ever. Their movies encourage me to be the main character in my life, seize the day and find beauty in the simple things in life.
1Q84 by Haruki Murakami: The longest novel written by Murakami, a notable Japanese author, my all-time favourite. It is one of the best ways to soak up in the magical realism that Murakami weaves so well with his words. The perfect weekend or rainy day read!
I Came Upon a Lighthouse by Shantanu Naidu: Shantanu writes about his life working with Ratan Tata, sharing heart-warming anecdotes about the two of them - a story that seems right of a fairy tale book! The book is dotted with lovely illustrations that bring the entire story to life. A feel-good read indeed!
The Jazz Hop Cafe, Lofi Girl, Tunable Music: Lofi music is a non-lyrical music genre composed of soft beats, peaceful piano and guitar accompaniments which together emanate a very peaceful, relaxed vibe. This is the perfect music to have on in the background while working/ studying/ reading. It boosts my productivity a lot and also lets me capture the 'main character' vibe better!
